3 COMMON OBJECTIONS THAT ARE RUINING YOUR LIFE.

I see people who struggle with pain on a daily basis.

Most of my clients know me as a massage therapist and many contact me when they are already in pain, which is not an ideal situation.🤦🏼‍♀️

Massage works best as a preventative treatment and when there is already a strain or an injury because of neglecting the problem, it takes several sessions to bring it back to normal.

What is the reality?

Many people use massage therapy as a painkiller.

When the situation gets unbearable, they start to bombard with messages trying to get a session on an already fully booked day.

They feel slightly better after 2-3 days and they go back to the lifestyle that brought them into that painful state.

The injury gets worse over time and after a few years it becomes a serious limitation in a joint connected to the problematic area. The final diagnosis is often serious and doctors start to suggest surgery.

The client who could prevent all this by a few lifestyle adjustments is now willing to pay thousands for an expensive surgery that never delivers results comparable to the state prior to the problem.

Why is this the most common scenario?

Unfortunately there are so many beliefs that are not serving us and yet we have the tendency to believe them. And then there are objections when it comes to a healthy lifestyle.

1️⃣ Healthy lifestyle is expensive - I can´t afford it.

What is truly expensive is living in pain and getting surgeries. 😖

But unfortunately people are willing to pay anything when they get too far.

So rather than saying that a healthy lifestyle is expensive, we should start to focus on the priorities and ask some questions.

What is it that you want to be doing in 10 or 20 years from now?

How do you want to feel at the age of 70, 80 or more?

If the dream vision of your future is spending the days in bed and in pain, then go ahead and continue investing in whatever that delivers the result. Most people would get a new TV screen within a few days after the old one broke, but would hesitate to book a regular massage session or get organic groceries.

So let´s try to reframe this.

Instead of saying I CAN´T AFFORD IT, say I DON´T WANT IT. Say it and see how it feels.

Be honest with yourself. 🤷🏼‍♀️

If you don´t want to be healthy, that´s fine, but don´t try to repeat lies to yourself.  Because the truth is that illness is expensive - it steals your money, time and energy… it's wiser to invest in health.

2️⃣ I don´t have time for all those healthy routines.

Another one about priorities. Do you have time to get knocked down by a disease for days, weeks or more?

Or do you think that it will never happen to you?

I tested both ways.. pushing my body too much without having healthy systems in place and ending up with burnouts. But since I´ve created my healthy routines and habits out of them, I haven´t even caught a cold or any health push back for more than a year, during the pandemic year.

I don´t spend hours per week in a gym and I don´t spend hours per day in my kitchen. Yet, I tick off my workout from my list the first thing in the morning, going for a run or a power walk with my dog, then a short stretch, breathing exercise, cold shower and a big green juice. ✅

All done by 7am when my body and brain feel energized and ready to face a new day.

On Sundays I do my meal prep to reduce the time in my kitchen during the week when days get busy. That´s it! There is plenty of time left for work, family responsibilities or whatever I decide to do with it.

3️⃣ In my age it´s normal to feel pains and aches.

“ If you are over 40 and nothing hurts in the morning, you´re probably dead.“ 🤯

I´ve heard that and been there too. But then I said to myself - wait, no way I want to feel like this if I still have half of my life in front of me! 🙅🏼‍♀️

And through my routines and  systems I became a runner at the age of 43 and now 3 years later I feel better than I felt in my 20ties. No pain, but lots of gain…

Limiting beliefs that we pick up automatically because it is easier to stay on the sofa and sometimes just because we want to fit in are actually shaping our reality and future. Most people prefer to stay in their comfort zone and accept the misery, but it is up to you which way you choose.

You can get inspired by those who lift weights and run marathons at the age of 80 and more, or you can stay where you are knowing it will be worse over time.

What is an ideal solution then?

If you feel you have the tendency to accumulate tension in your body because of exercise or stress, start paying attention to what exactly is causing it.

Mindfulness is the step nr. 1.

Lifestyle adjustments is the next one - after you find out what is causing the problem, start to modify the activity.

If it is lifting weights that make you feel stiff, incorporate more stretching for the problematic areas. If it is long days sitting at the desk, start to improve your posture, try different positions and take some short stretching breaks.

This approach is a long term solution. But if you need to accelerate the process because your back already hurts, incorporate a regular massage in your schedule.

It doesn´t have to be weekly if you can´t commit to it, even a monthly routine delivers amazing results as opposed to the chaotic painkiller approach.

Start to work on your posture, have a look at your diet and eliminate foods that cause inflammation like sugar, dairy and gluten.

But whatever you decide to do, commit to it and stay consistent. Create your routines like your life depends on it, because it does. So what is your favorite objection when it comes to healthy lifestyle?🤔
